Wow. These are photos I never thought I would share on the internet. But I think before and after fitness posts are so inspiring and I need a boost of motivation. So I wanted to share my fitness journey with you. As I’m sure you noticed by the photos, this is the before.
Let’s start with a little bit of history. I’ve always been petite. I’ve been lucky to inherit my dad’s super fast metabolism. But I’ve pretty much relied on that. I’m super uncoordinated and have never been into sports. So growing up and all through high school, I pretty much ate whatever I wanted and never worked out. I’m fairly active, so I walked a lot but never as intentional exercise. I pretty much did the same thing in college. Everyone talked about the “freshman fifteen,” but that never really affected me. Except the semester that I was in Florida for the Disney College Program! Eating Disney food all day, every day did cause me to gain some weight. When I came home and went back to real life, my weight went back down.
Then I turned 25. Almost immediately, I felt like my metabolism changed and I’ve been slowing gaining more weight. Since I turned 25, I’m now 26 and 3 months, I’ve gain 10 pounds. Being petite, I’m only 5′ 2″, this felt like a lot. A lot of my clothes started feeling tighter and I noticed that my face was looking a lot fuller. This is definitely not a trend I want to continue, so here we are at the beginning of my fitness journey.
While I want to be thin and look good, I have a lot of goals for this journey that aren’t size related. 26 years of basically no exercise is not healthy. And my posture is terrible. Here are my fitness goals:
- find a healthy size
- gain muscle and feel stronger
- gain confidence (aka look good in a swim suit)
- be healthier
- improve posture
- get more energy
- possibly minimize migraines
- connect with great new friends
My main goal for this journey is to be healthier. While I want to look good on the outside, but more importantly I want to be healthy on the inside. I’ve felt low on energy for a while and I want to work on improving that. I want to be able to go up stairs without feeling winded and run with Astro at the park without running out of breath. I want to be able to lift and carry heavy things without needing to ask for help.
Plus, feeling less jiggling, squishy, and getting rid of cellulite would be awesome bonuses.
I’m really excited to be starting this journey. I’ve gone to the gym a few times and attended classes, but with no real plan in mind. I’m going to start working out regularly and eating better. I’m by no means a fitness expert, but I’m hoping I can share what works for me, habit changes that I’m enjoying, and tasty recipes!
Are you on your own fitness journey?! I’d love to hear what has been working for you! If you have a favorite Youtube channel or blog that you love, please let me know in the comments!
Thank you so much for reading. This is a little tough to post, so I greatly appreciate your support. xo. Laura
