Laura’s Craft Room (Before/Work in Progress)

Hello! My craft room has been a disaster for weeks and I’m determined to get it cleaned up. One of the main issues with this room is that it’s not set up for the types of projects that I need to do. So, I’m redoing the whole thing! Everything is going to be sorted, organized, and put in the proper place.

My main goals for this room are:

  • get the furniture in the right place
  • sort, organize, and label all craft supplies
  • get rid of supplies that I’m not using
  • get sofa bed for guest room
  • find a way to hide the wifi
  • set up craft desk and computer desk

You can see that this room is crazy messy. It’s not normally this bad, so I’m calling this the before/work in progress stage. It’s not going to be perfect by the end of December, but I’m hoping to make a lot of progress by then, so I can jump into my January goals (more on that soon!).

If you have any favorite storage ideas for crafts or any videos that you think are helpful for organizing, let me know in the comments! I’ll be posting more videos of how I organize my supplies and the finished room! xo. Laura

Iā€™m looking forward to seeing your progress! I just finished remodelling my craft room but I am the worst at taking before photos – I get so excited that I just go ahead and forget about documenting the process šŸ˜› Now I am left without a single before photo haha. I have some of those Ikea items too!

I love IKEA! That’s so funny. I’m usually really bad about taking before photos too. I think I was procrastinating on getting start with this mess ha. It’s looking a little better already!

Do you have any after photos of your craft room?

all i can say is use your walls!!! maybe like a shelving system?
where the books are at…..build on that.
i know you might not want a lot of work but maybe making the bookshelf seem more built in vs just a book shelf (see here! —> http://www.thesurznickcommonroom.com/2017/01/ikea-built-in-billy-bookcases.html) then you can build your computer desk into it. so that it looks like one solid area and you have all that in one corner and the good thing is you have those shelves that you got from your friend so that can help out to hold the table top that you’re going to get at ikea.

the white table that you have with the greenish-boxes in them….stand it up! and place it in a corner.
i have the same 2 at home and 1 of them hold my books. i stood it up and it gave me soooo much more space!!!!! and if you choose to do all your scrapbooking with your table against the wall, i bought these wall holder things (kinda like this…. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80149460/) and some little buckets from ikea and in them i store all the stuff that i use very often. like one holds my stapler (that i bought because of you AND I LOVE IT!!!!) along with some hole punchers, exacto knifes…and others hold pens, markers, tapes, and a bunch of stuff. (i think its easier for me to store them this way because i have less items because i literally have no space! but you have a whole room!!!! <3)

also, have you thought of maybe buying like super cheap 12×12 books that you can store your paper in!? like binders!!!! so on the spine you can write what each book has and you can just flip as you go so that you can find the paper you're looking for. i always pass on a lot of paper because i HATE having to look for it. if i had an easier solution, i think i'd use them more and you can store similar paper in the same pocket! (i actually think im about to steal this idea!) and then when you're done, BOOM! in the closet!

ugh! your space is giving me all the feels! i wish i had a craft room! for now i just have a little corner and its driving me insane!!!!

i can't wait to see what you do with the space!!!

    good luck!

      Les,

Those are all really great suggestions! I can definitely make great use of the walls! Thank you for sending all those ideas! I love them!

I’m so jealous that you have a whole craft room! I can’t wait to live in a bigger place so my husband stops complaining about my scrapbooking stuff/desk taking up too much room in our bedroom haha

I use a lot of drawer organizers/dividers to keep things sectioned off, and plastic photo containers are really good for keeping journaling cards grouped together, either by size or by kit (http://www.joann.com/photo-keeper-large/11503711.html#start=1).
